The Opportunity
Columbia-Greene Community College is seeking dynamic,
collaborative, and student-centered candidates for a full-time,
10-month, tenure track Academic, Career, and Transfer Advisor
position.
Duties and Responsibilities
Assist students in understanding academic program requirements to
ensure a successful path to graduation or transfer. This includes
helping with course selection and registration, providing feedback
and support regarding career and transfer goals (in both one-on-one
and group settings), interpreting institutional requirements,
policies, and procedures, explaining general education
requirements, and making referrals to other academic and student
support services.
Integrate career development concepts and strategies into the
advising process; participate in the planning, implementation, and
assessment of the academic advising unit;
Administer and interpret vocational and personality assessment
instruments;
Provide students with information about alternatives, limitations,
and possible consequences of academic decisions (e.g. adding,
dropping or withdrawing from classes; change of program, and or
transfer institution; financial aid implications);
Consult with contacts from various transfer institutions regarding
course and program transferability, admissions, and graduation
requirements; plan and present transfer, career and academic
oriented workshops;
Participate in new student orientation program; counsel students
with personal issues that may impact academic progress and serve as
a referral agent when appropriate;
Actively participates in departmental activities, college
committees and as a member of the Academic Advising Team.
Maintains a key role in implementing evidence-based, high-impact
practices and pedagogical supports.
Remain current on emerging technologies, innovative management
tools, and retention best practices. Provide support and training
opportunities for staff on industry-standard advisement
technologies.
Provide holistic basic needs support and referral to appropriate
resources, as needed.
Serves on College-wide committees as appropriate.
Qualifications and Requirements
Master's degree in counseling, student personnel services or higher
education administration from an accredited college or university
required.
Commitment to fostering an environment that promotes social justice
and accessibility.
Some evening and weekend hours are required, as well as operational
duties across the calendar year.
Salary and Benefit Information
Contractual starting salary $51K and rank will be commensurate with
education and work experience. The College offers a comprehensive
